The points for measurement.Below are the main points from which dimensions are taken.
Pitch angle
The pitch angle is taken across the intersection of riser and top of tread line.
Tread
The tread or "going" is measured from the face of one riser to the front of the next riser. The top tread is the landing nosing.
Riser
The riser runs verticaly between treads, the rise is measured from the top of one tread to the top of the next Tread.
Nosing
The nosing is purely decorative during the manufacture of staircases, it has no relevance to the functional working calculations and should be ignored as such. The nosing projects from the front of the treads.
FFL or finished floor levels
The distance between finished floor levels is the measurement required for the calculator above. this is the measurement from the top of one floor (allowing for any covering to the structural flooring ( e.g. hardwood flooring or tiles) to the connecting levels finshed floor level.
